My mom came to the United States from El Salvador

My mom came to the United States from El Salvador in 1980 with essentially nothing but the clothes on her back. She arrived in New York and had a dream that a child of hers would graduate from NYU. Today, it was my honor to see that dream come true.

To say the past two years have been a journey is an understatement. Between all the commuting from NJ, juggling school, work, a thesis, and having some health concerns—I am proud to say that I have received my masters degree from @mccnyu . I want to thank everyone who helped me get here—from my undergraduate mentors and advisors who pushed me to go to grad school, the brilliant and world renowned professors and mentors at MCC who have created an amazing program, my fellow classmates who inspired me to think deeply and be curious. Our cohort was a group of incredibly intelligent people. I’m praying a special blessing over y’all. I know you all will succeed in everything you do!

Although today was seeing my mom’s dream come true, it was also so much more than that. Yes, my mom dreamed it, but I owned it. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way!

Today, I said goodbye to my best friend. Cody was

Today, I said goodbye to my best friend. Cody was less than one month short of his 18th birthday. Ten of those years he lived with us. One of our favorite things to do was to snuggle in bed and watch YouTube (except for that one time he threw up rocks in my bed 😂). Cody had many nicknames Codester, Codeman, Coyi, Coyishh, Gypsie, and Hercules, but my favorite was calling him Don Coyito—one of my mom’s names for him. He was a crazy dude, so wild, with tons of energy. He loved us so so much and I’ll always love and miss my Cody forever! 🐾🐾
